Stuart Ringhold

AGWA Collection: Part 2

Ringholt’s practice is a curiously intense blend of critique, humour, intellectual free play and
philosophically inflected design thinking. Indeed, one might see his practice as a kind of strategic cutting and pasting, a collaged approach to the exigencies of the lifeworld, that runs on the fuel of a (blankly) Kafka esque take on the surreal. This combination of forces makes him one of the country9s most unique, and quietly innovative and provocative artists.

These time-based media works were part of a major body of works donated by the artist in 2020
which significantly demonstrated Ringholt9s achievements to fellow artists and the public. The
videos shows how various scenarios play such ideas out in real life as his protagonists meet
tasks in such a way that unpick our habitual modes of dealing with the objects and flows of life
around us. It is almost as if he views our world like a visitor from outer space… which is a nice
segue to the Starring William Shatner as Curator group of videos that speaks to the posturing
and importance of the art world, a world that might be best navigated by charisma and wit,
rehearsed lines and a Stoic facial aspect.
