
Live Drawing with Ruth Leigh
Join us for an immersive portrait drawing workshop, working from a live model and exploring the expressive qualities of charcoal, ink, and pencil.
At the start of the session, you’ll be introduced to a range of techniques, including shading, mark-making, and composition, to help you build confidence in your approach. Guided by an experienced facilitator, you’ll then apply these skills to capture the likeness and character of the model. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this hands-on workshop offers a great opportunity to experiment and develop your portrait drawing practice.

Ruth is undergoing a Artist in Residency at the Courthouse Gallery+Studio from 24/03/25 – 11/04/25.
Ruth Leigh is an award-winning artist, writer, and arts facilitator based in the Perth Hills, Western Australia. Primarily a figurative painter, Ruth’s work is deeply inspired by social interactions – ranging from fleeting encounters to long-standing relationships – as well as Western Australia’s vast and varied landscapes and cultural history.
With over a decade of experience in the arts sector, Ruth has worked extensively as a facilitator and project manager across multiple regional and Indigenous arts programs. Her experience working as a studio coordinator at Martumili Artists and Spinifex Hill Studios and facilitating arts workshops across WA has equipped her with a deep understanding of community arts practice and mentorship, making her an invaluable resource for artists seeking guidance in their creative journeys.
