Courthouse Gallery+Studio
Expressionist, Sculptor & Narrative Reclaimer
This August, The Junction Co. and Courthouse Gallery+Studio proudly welcomes acclaimed artist Karen Chappelow, a trailblazing force in contemporary expressionism, for a weekend of thought-provoking workshops and creative disruption.
Based in Western Australia and exhibiting internationally, Karen’s art unapologetically fuses whimsy, sass, and social commentary. With over 20 years of painting and sculpting experience, her works challenge traditional power structures and spark conversations about agency, identity, and the subversive beauty of imperfection. Her influences, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and the Expressionist movement, are felt in her gestural style, saturated palettes, and deeply personal visual language.
Karen’s work has been featured in sold-out exhibitions across Europe and the U.S., and her distinct aesthetic has appeared in Art Edit Magazine, Home Design Magazine, and The Block. As curator of the Arts Toodyay Gallery and founder of Siren Products, her creative reach spans from canvas to sculptural installations, murals, wearables, and even bespoke furniture design.
In 2025, Karen’s painting My Body My Choice was named a finalist in The Jury Art Prize. This evocative reinterpretation of the myth of Leda and the Swan offers a contemporary lens where victimhood is replaced by agency, and the beauty that once masked cruelty is exposed and reclaimed.
The Courthouse Gallery+Studio would like to acknowledge the Kariyarra, Ngarla, and Nyamal people as the Traditional Custodians of the Town of Port Hedland lands. We recognise their strength and resilience and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
The Courthouse Gallery+Studio is managed by The Junction Co. on behalf of the Town of Port Hedland.
