The Paradox of Duality with Karen Chappelow
This immersive, hands-on workshop explores the concept of duality – how opposing truths can coexist in a single image. Karen guides participants through a two-stage process using Japanese rice paper and watercolour paper to create ghostly impressions of an initial concept. These ethereal forms serve as a springboard for deeper narrative development using acrylics, oils, pastels, and pen.
Participants will transform their ephemeral imprints into richly layered artworks by adhering the rice paper onto stretched canvas, building tactile surfaces that echo memory, silence, and transformation. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a first-time maker, this workshop invites you to play with texture, imperfection, and multiplicity.
All skill levels welcome. Materials provided. Expect conversation, reflection, and bold visual storytelling.
