ARTIST BIO

Born: Geraldton, WA
DOB: 5/12/1967
“I am currently exploring faceted aspects of female (feminine) identity, a deconstruction and recontextualisation of societal belief systems.
I have been an artist/educator of mature age students for 30 years. A large focus during this time has been dissemination of creative information to students on traditional and contemporary art forms and genres, with my own practice taking a backseat to my primary job role.
I am now altering the balance of work/life/arts practice and entering a reflective time and space that is echoed in my points of focus and subjects at hand.
At 57 I am now considered a senior citizen, which I find hilarious. There is a melting uncertainty in ageing. I am currently exploring faceted aspects of female (feminine)
identity, a deconstruction and recontextualization of societal belief systems.
Stitch (and self-portraiture) is my chosen medium at present as a way to pay homage to recontextualising ‘women’s work’ whilst deconstructing notions around beauty and sexuality in the ageing process.” – ;Lexie Lazenby
