Artist statement: Fish live with the ever present risk of death in discarded nets drifting through the seas. This magnifies the impact of commercial and illegal fish extraction around the world. The journal Nature currently reports 75% of fishing vessesl are not publicly tracked. Hidden fishing represents grave dangers to the oceans and humanity. Please use the ultraviolet torchlight which highlights this.
Materials and techniques: We two artists, 800km apart, liaised together to use ultraviolet paints, dyes, oil pastels, bleaching, rubbings and stamping techniques onto plain fabric. References: Scott Fisher and "Recreational fishing identification guide".
