Artist statement: Corymbia ficifolia, commonly known as Red Flowering Gum. A species of small gum tree endemic to the South West of Western Australia. Flowers through December-May in bright reds and pinks but also bright orange. My improvisational interpretation of the bright orange blossom against an Esperance blue summer sky.
Materials and techniques: Assorted blues and oranges cut freehand with a rotary cutter and sewn together improvisational style. Cotton fabrics & thread. Cotton batting. Free motion quilted on Bernina domestic machine. Finished with a facing.
