Artist statement: They tended the land in the absence of men who went to war. The invading rabbits destroyed their crops. Enduring economic challenges in a harsh Australian environment, this was the story for many women working the land in the early 1900's. With found materials, they mended the land by day and their families and home by night.
Materials and techniques: Discarded cotton and hessian, each separately pulped and screened to form layers of natural fibre. Using a bag needle and cotton thread, the layers are hand stitched between fencing wire.
